I am so excited to begin my 5th year as the principal of MHE! If you are not exactly sure how to say my last name - think “HOLT” and “VELOUR” (like the fabric) and you’ve got it! But most people call me “Mr. H.” and that is totally fine with me.

I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan and attended Hope College (Holland, MI) where I played football, met my wife, and originally graduated with a Communication degree.

Shortly thereafter, my wife and I moved to Tampa, Florida where I accepted a 3rd Grade teaching position at Mary Bryant Elementary. I taught at Bryant Elementary for over 6 years in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade classrooms. Mammoth Heights and Bryant Elementary have many of the same characteristics that make them great schools! While teaching, I earned my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida. Soon after earning my Master’s degree, I moved within the District to Citrus Park Elementary where I served as the Assistant Principal for three years. From there, I accepted the Principal position at Woodside Elementary back in my hometown area of Holland, Michigan where I served as the building principal for three years.

This school year, my son Luke will begin 3rd Grade here at MHE and my daughter, Ava will be in 1st grade! My wife and I are also the proud parents of Chase.
